The Arc of Essex County

In September 1947 a group of innovative parents, community leaders and dedicated volunteers gathered to create services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Today, The Arc of Essex County is a private, non-profit agency serving people who live in and around Essex County. The Arc of Essex County’s mission is to provide comprehensive services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families ensuring a lifetime of achievement with dignity and full partnership in the community.

The Arc of Essex County is one of the most preeminent organizations of its kind in the tri-state region, providing resources to nearly 1,500 individuals and their families each year. A wide array of services are available across the lifespan including, early intervention, a school, summer day camp, adult day activities, vocational training, group homes and supervised apartments, adult recreation and information and referral services.

The Arc continues to be reflective of the input of innovative individuals and their families, ever growing to meet the challenges and new directions of our constituents.
