The philosophy of Down syndrome Parent-to-Parent is to offer support and current information to parents and families of newborn children with Down syndrome. Down Syndrome Parent-to-Parent Program is comprised of parents who have a child with Down syndrome and professionals who work closely with them. Our purpose is to make early contact and offer current information to new parents of babies with Down syndrome. All parents of Down syndrome Parent-to-Parent have participated in a series of trainings. Our parents will visit with “new” parents and share experiences as only other parents can.
Our non-judgmental philosophy allows us to aid parents no matter what their concerns may be regarding their child. We share a common bond that draws parents, their families and the community together.
A member of Down syndrome Parent-to-Parent will visit in the hospital and/or at home and supply the family with a packet of material containing current factual and resource information on Down syndrome. Down syndrome Parent-to-Parent also informs families of specific services and programs available for both parent and child.
Down syndrome Parent-to-Parent is a free service and is an affiliate of The Arc of Essex County. For more information please call Judy Bellina, at 973-535-1181 ext. 1223.
